The match was preceded by a nice event organized by HC Košice management. They awarded our best cadet, young competitor, and junior for the month of November. In the first category the award went to Juraj Slafkovský, for cadets the awarded player was Adam Markuš. The best junior became Filip Maňák.

The pace of the first period of the match between Košice and Liptovský Mikuláš was relatively quiet. even though the home players gain an advantage in its beginning, they played power play and the opponent was short of two men, however they did not use this advantage. We also did not see a goal during the advantage of the guest team from Liptov. The score was then changed in the 10th minute, when Huna escaped the defense of Steelers and overcome Habala during an individual attack. Košice could have equalize the score right afterwards, but after Spilar’s pass to the blue line there was a shot that ended up on the net’s pole only. Before the break neither Hovorka used his chance, so they went to the locker rooms at 0:1.

Also the middle period brought mutually defensive hockey and it was very hard to take the lead. But then at the end of the 29th minute Matúš Sukeľa overcome Vladislav Habala by an accurately aimed shot and changed the score to 0:2 for the guest team. The answer from the home team came six minutes later by Suja, and also in this case it was a goal during the power play. In the end of the second period we did not see any greater chances, therefore the score after 40 minutes was 1:2.

From the beginning of the third period Košice hockey players were applying pressure before the net of Andrej Košarišťan and in their effort to score they were shooting more often. It is worth to mention the ending of Šoltés, who missed just millimeters to place the puck in the net. Then Košice did not use the power play twice. The desired goal then finally came in the beginning of the 55th minute, when Hovorka pleased the audience. During the regular playtime the score did not change, so the playtime was extended.

During the extension the visitors could enjoy an attractive format of three players against three, which is more suitable mostly for technically skilled and faster players. During the extra five minutes Košice was the more active team, they were pushing the opponent, but the goal did not come. So the match must have been decided by penalty shooting. And our victory was finally decided by Dávid Šoltés.

Milan Jančuška, Košice Coach: “We have four players on our list of injured players. Therefore we had to change the original formations. Nevertheless, I am not satisfied with the performance even though we had some good moments in this match. But considering the course of the match we are grateful for the gained two points.
