Duel in Zvolen started carefully on both sides. The first better shot was presented by a host player Nagy not earlier than in the fourth minute. However, Ross diverted his puck near the net. The Steelers needed to defend themselves in the sixth minute during the penalty of Matejka, but they handled the situation without any complications. The visitors saw a better chance in the beginning of the second part, when the home player Chovan found Hraško in ideal position, but Hraško failed on Habala though. Right after the home teame had a chance for outnumbering, but did not manage to score in the end. Then in the 13th minute the Košice Team gained a short double outnumbering advantage and managed to push the opponent, but they did not score. At the very end of the period Zvolen could have punished the poor productivity of Košice, but neither Ross nor Obdržálek hit the area of three poles. All left for changing rooms at 0:0.
The guest players started more actively in the second period. Suja was in an ideal position, facing the goalkeeper, but he did not trick Šimko and failed to score. The offensive game of Košice continued and Suja got another chance when he tipped Matejka's shot from the blue line, but he scored to the net with high-stick only, so the video umpire could not confirm the goal. The score was not opened even in the 28th minute after very aggressive shot of Wharton, which Habala selflessly caught. In the half of the regular game time Košice developed outnumbering two against one, but Spilar after Pacan's pass did not shoot, because Kováčik ideally deviated the puck. In the 34th minute the home player Michal Chovan was fouled, which was followed by penalty shooting, which opened the score. Chovan used the penalty shooting and send Zvolen to lead 1:0. Shortly after the goal also Šišovský asked for penalty shooting after the foul, but he did not use the penalty shooting and the home team left for changing rooms with the lowest advantage possible.
At the end of the second period Košice were playing power play, however despite great pressure they did not use it. This brought new power to the team of Zvolen and they developed two good chances fast, but Habal caught Chovan's and Coffman's shot by his glove. The score could have been equal in the 49th minute, when Hovorka was in front of Šimko all by himself, but Šimko miraculously caught. Over time the pressure of Košice team was growing and Zvolen answered by counterattack, but the goal keepers and defense on both sides dominated. The visitors were watching active hockey with number of duels, but minimum goals. At the very end Košice tried to even the score without their goal keeper, but they conceded a goal by Michal Chovan to the empty net and lost the match 0:2.
