Košice started the match better, after several seconds they had several good chances. In the opening minute Pacan and Suja presented themselves with their finishes, but none of them overcame Tomek. One minute later Šoltés missed so the players of Žilina had their chances as well. They played a power play by the end of the second minute and Kozák changed this power play to a goal. The home team was leading 1:0. But this was real just for three minutes and 8 seconds, because in the eights minute Jenčík escaped independently and rippled Tomek's net. During the next course of the first period Pacan added a power-play goal and then Suja picked up on this goal. So after 20 minutes Košice was leading 3:1.

The opening of the middle part of the regular playtime belonged to the Wolves of Žilina. Same as our players in the first period they managed to have several chances to score. But Pospíšil or Kozák did not bring their shots behind the net line, so the answer came from the other side of the ice-rink. Kafka found Pacan, who adjusted the score to 4:1 for Košice. In the 36th minute Andersons returned Žilina back to the game, but the final minute of the second period belonged to Košice players again. Kafka scored, so after 40 minutes of the game Košice was leading 5:2.

Žilina had a chance in a short power play when Košice was short of 2 players. Besides the shot of Pospíšil we did not see anything interesting on the side of the Wolves, so the score remained unchanged. But it was changed after a beautiful individual action of Miklík, who placed Andersons and Mikoláš and adjusted to 6:2 for the Steelers. In the 51st minute Kozák scored again. But then the score remained unchanged, so Košice added three important points to the chart. In addition, it was a birthday victory of the Swedish goal tender Joakim Lundström.
