HC Košice media-team is expanding

ADDED: 8.10.2019

In the last season, our club’s events were mapped by HC Košice media team, which has recently been joined by two charming students of Mass media Studies of the Department of Slovak Studies, Slavonic Philologies and Communication of Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice. This student integration project was initiated by the hockey club itself in cooperation with the Head of the Department of Mass media Studies, Renáta Cenková.

Baša Haluskowa and Lucia Sajgóová have become rightful members of the team with dozens of photo and video reports and articles of different fields. Both club representatives and teachers of UPJŠ are satisfied with the cooperation of these students.

Vojtech Petty, PR Manager HC Košice:It is wonderful to watch how an experienced specialist is being formed literally in front of your eyes. Young people are fantastically creative and practically “invincible”. While we give them school of life, specialized leading and real-life experience, they repay it to us in form of energy and ideas. I myself was pleasantly surprised to see their fast and comfortable integration into prestigious redactions, where they play fully-fledged roles. On the other hand, I would be glad to see more young people getting involved. When it comes to our part, we will definitely make room for them.”

Renáta Cenková, the Head of the Department of Mass media studies, Department of Slovak Studies, Slavonic Philologies and Communication, Faculty of Arts, Pavol Jozef Šafárik in Košice: “The success story of our already former students really makes us happy. The fact that students of mass media studies in Košice are able to find their place on the labor market in their field of specialization or in the field of media or marketing is a clear sign that the symbiosis of theory and practice is inevitable in this field of specialization. Games of HC Košice, as well as the last year’s Hockey World Championship matches, which took place in Košice were some strong arguments, which made our students fall for work in the field of sports journalism. We keep our fingers crossed for them and we’re looking for our further cooperation.”

Baša Haluskowa:I have loved hockey since I was a child, and I used to dream of working as a sports journalist one day. So, for me, this job in HC Košice was an opportunity, which has literally fallen into my hands like a ripe plum. I have learnt so much from the PR manager – from organization of promo events to photographing or writing articles. I was given a chance to develop not only in the field of PR, but also as a technical support during games – i.e. as a cameraman. I used to be a member of our University TV, so I know how to record creative videos or reports and here in HC Košice, we’ve been given a blank check in this. Work relating to the A-team was later extended by the work around the youth, whereby I made new contacts, and now, I am able to communicate with coaches or players. Except for these, I got to know a lot of important personalities and journalists, and thus I have built a contact network useful for my future. As the Hockey World Championship took place here the last year, I could experience it from behind the camera ?. All the skills I’ve gained in the hockey club for 1.5 year opened the door to a new job position for me – news reporter in Košice TV, and I am very thankful for it, because I was “thrown into water” and now I can work with other journalists without any fears.”

Lucia Sajgóová:Free games, interviews and events with hockey stars, exceptional and professional approach on the part of the manager and the whole management, possibility to develop and gain experience, the name of the company shining in my CV… this is all part of the job in HC Košice that I am so grateful for. I have gained here a lot of skills and practical suggestions, I have found out, what I want to do in the future, but mainly, now I know how it feels to do a job I love.”

“My job was really diverse, but always interesting. In HC Košice I had mainly the opportunity to develop my movie editing skills. I recorded videos from different events we used to attend with the players. It was an amazing feeling, when I saw my video being presented on the main cube in Steel Arena during matches visited by thousands of people. However, I didn’t only record videos. I also took pictures, did interviews with the players and the management of HC Košice or with the co-organizers of different events. Each time we used these outputs to write an article that we later uploaded to HC Košice Content Management System. By this, I have learnt to work with an editorial system and with the business version of Facebook as well as with Instagram. I have learnt to create attractive copywriting on Facebook and on Instagram. When writing articles, I often had to work hard as I hadn’t known much about hockey up to then, but everything needs some time and if one does their best, everything can be learnt.”

“It was not only about work, but also about the support on the part of the PR manager Vojto Petty, who was helping us constantly and thanks to him, we were able to grow. It may also be proved by the fact, that he didn’t hesitate to organize a charity action “HC Košice for the Dog Shelter in Košice” based on my incentive. The club’s management and players took part in this project, and thus we were able to aid the shelter materially and to make their day at least a little bit more pleasant by a walk.”

“Due to the internship in HC Košice and the name of the company in my CV, I got a lot of job offers. I am infinitely grateful for this opportunity and I can only recommend all the students to work hard and to gain experience already during their university studies. And one huge “THANK YOU” belongs to HC KOŠICE!”

How does work in HC Košice media-team looks like? After drawing up the media plan, reporters take over the published topic, elaborate its concept before final publishing including photo and video materials. Articles and reports may contain interviews with players and coaches, reports from the games, articles about the club events, etc.

Moreover, members of the media team have access to the premises and may attend events, where a common mortal can’t get under normal conditions. Plus, it allows students build their contact network, which can be very useful for their future career.
